Recurring themes are our mind's way of inviting us to address issues that we have repeatedly left unresolved. What question frequently goes round in your mind? What issue comes back time after time for you? The theme(s) may re-appear at different points in our life and in a variety of different situations.

                                     1. Moving Forward: Setting Goals
 

                                      
  
The forward-planning approach starts from where you are now. You'll set goals for a particular current or upcoming situation, or create new principles by which to live as you go forward in your life, trying them out in your real-life circumstances and adjusting until you achieve the perfect fit for you.

This might include skills development, target-setting, mental focus and visualisation, and increased 3-way awareness - of yourself, other people, and a more objective view of each situation.

You'll be stepped through the process at a level and pace you feel comfortable with, which can be adjusted as you go. 
 

                                    2. Deconstruction: Sorting out the past 
 
                                     
 

You may have decided to work with a Life Coach because of a specific current situation which is particularly challenging or upsetting.

Or you may have a recurring theme in your life which you can't quite resolve.

In this kind of situation the best way forward can be to first uncover and address the underlying issues which have led to your current circumstances. This needn't necessarily take very long, depending on the situation.

Karin will always recommend medical or other professional avenues if a different route could be more beneficial or complementary to Life Coaching sessions.

You'll also find a new approach which will achieve a different outcome compared to what you have tried thus far and results which are a better match with who you are and what you want to happen. 
 
                                   3. Spontaneity: Living in the present 

                                  
  
Alternatively, you may prefer a more flexible, less structured approach addressing situations as they arise, and drawing on a range of methods and ideas to find what works best for you.

This can also work well if you're not quite clear about which are the most significant issues to address.

Ultimately, living in the present, handling every situation with confidence and being positive in your thinking will bring you greater inner peace and a happier life.

You may find that an initial session to help you get some clarity and decide on a way forward is a really useful starting point. The important thing is that you feel more confident, positive and in control of your own life by the time you leave.

Try these three simple changes:

1. Make one simple change to your posture:
 
 
Stress and times of transition in our lives invariably lead to body tension.
Here's a simple way to get your body to relax which you may not have thought of:

Tilt the rear view mirror in your car slightly higher than usual, lift your torso out of your pelvis without lifting your chin.

Relax your grip on the steering wheel if it is too tight, and drop your shoulders.

Inhale deeply and exhale slowly, then continue to breathe normally.

Sit back in the seat a little, and make sure you have safe visibility and no pain.

Maintain this new mirror position when driving for the next 2 weeks.

You will probably need to lift your posture each time you get into the car until you adjust
to the new position and your new posture.

2. Practise the art of smiling:
 

 
A smile can transform a situation and signals your positive connection with others.

Before you enter a room, and every time you are about to come face to face with
any colleague, family member or friend, just before they come into view, smile with your eyes.

Try this consistently for 2 weeks. Notice how much more upbeat, warm-hearted, positive 
and relaxed is the atmosphere you have created.

You will receive a much more positive response from people if you are smiling at the start.

3. Put yourself on a positive language 'diet' for the next two weeks:
 

 
Positive language, both internally and out loud, is key to Life Coaching principles.

Remove every negative or critical word or phrase from your sentences.

Do this for words you say both out loud and in your thoughts, including self-critical and demotivating words.

Also remove any word or phrase that contains any hint of accusation.

Try this for 2 weeks. Make it a life decision to be the most positive person you know.

14 days is usually long enough for us to replace an old habit with a positive new approach
and to make a noticeable difference. 
 
Doing something consistently for 28 days can lead to permanent change.
